Lowe's Category Crosswire

Clearance pricing from one aisle applied sitewide

85%

Off Retail

Lowe's pricing database experienced a category crosswire on July 29, 2024 when clearance pricing from seasonal garden items bled into every product category. Suddenly, premium appliances, power tools, and bathroom fixtures were tagged with end-of-season garden clearance prices — some as low as 85% off.

The Bandar's Bounties team caught it at 10:15 PM EST. The clearance tags were unmistakable: bright yellow price labels on products that should never have been discounted. The alert included screenshots and direct links to the best deals.

Members stormed Lowes.com, loading carts with Whirlpool washers at $120 (retail $899), Craftsman tool chests at $45 (retail $349), and Kohler bathroom vanities at $67 (retail $599). The clearance prices applied cleanly at checkout.

Lowe's engineering team identified the crosswire at midnight and began correcting prices category by category. But the damage was done — thousands of orders were already confirmed. Every order shipped within the standard delivery window.

Category pricing errors create some of the deepest discounts we've ever seen. When Lowe's clearance engine misfires, Bandar's Bounties members are first in line.
