What Happened

Microsoft's subscription management portal experienced a sign-reversal bug on May 20, 2024. When users canceled their free Game Pass Ultimate trial, instead of seeing a $0 charge, the system issued a $59.99 credit to their Microsoft account — the full annual subscription value, for free.

Bandar's Bounties caught the anomaly at 10:30 PM EST when members started reporting unexpected credits appearing after cancellations. The team verified the exploit and pushed an alert within minutes.

The Checkout Rush

Members rushed to sign up for free trials of Game Pass, Microsoft 365, and Azure services — then immediately canceled. Each cancellation generated a credit equal to the full subscription price. Some members cycled through multiple trial types, accumulating hundreds in Microsoft credit.

Did They Ship?

Microsoft patched the billing system by 1 AM, but all credits that had already been issued remained on accounts. Members spent them on Xbox games, Microsoft Store purchases, and extended subscriptions at zero cost.

Subscription system glitches are becoming more common as companies offer more trial services. Bandar's Bounties watches them all.
